Welcome July!

To start off the month we have many activities to celebrate Independence Day. Thursday, July 1st residents will have a red, white, and blue scavenger hunt followed by Independence Day trivia. That afternoon residents will make some fireworks art using sponges. Bake Club has started up again and will take place every Friday at 10:00 am. To kick off bake club we will be making flag fruit pizzas to enjoy during our 4th of July happy hour celebration. Don’t forget to wear your red, white, and blue for our party on Friday, July 2nd. The party will follow directly after bingo.

Now that summer is in full swing, we have many nature themed activities planned. We will be “traveling” to Yellowstone and beyond and we learn about the US National Parks system, exercising on the national park fitness trail, listening to music inspired by national parks, and having a butterfly program with Michelle from the Conservation of Central Park. To celebrate summer, we will be having a Hawaiian Party on Friday, July 9th at 2:00 pm. Susan Walker, our dietary supervisor will be making some delicious appetizers and tasting drinks to enjoy at the party.

The Summer Olympics begin on Friday, July 23rd. This year the Summer Olympics will take place in Tokyo. Residents will participate in their own Olympic Games on Thursday, July 22nd! They will continue to participate in Olympic activities the following week with an Olympic quiz show, baking and decorating Olympic cookies, and creating stamped Olympic ring art.

Lastly, we are happy to announce that entertainers are welcome back to do live performances! This month we have musical entertainment with The Midnight Rider and Mike & Bonnie. We are also interested in getting volunteers back into our facility to assist with group activities and 1:1 visits. If you know of anyone that would like to volunteer, please call our facility at 319-462-4356 and I will assist with volunteering questions and options.

Have a fun and safe 4th of July!
