Activities in Action

Welcome June,

Summer is officially here! I first want to thank all the staff and residents that participated and made Nursing Home Week one to remember! Fishing, enjoying lunch outside, painting the four seasons, and playing the saran wrap ball game were some of the many activities we had during this week. This month we celebrate Father’s Day with a BBQ lunch on Sunday, June 20th. Residents will be making Father’s Day tackle box gifts for all our amazing men. The tackle boxes will be filled with golf fish, gummi worms, and Swedish fish.

This month is all about Jamacia. The residents will be getting into their summer groove on the beautiful island of Jamaica as they learn facts about the island, listen to Jamaican music, and create Jamacia’s flag using food coloring and rice. We celebrate donut day on June 4th with coffee and donuts along with a discussion about donuts and how Jamaica’s Blue Mountain coffee came about.

Flag Day is celebrated every year on June 14th.  “It commemorates the adoption of the flag of the United States on June 14, 1777.” Residents will be discussing flag etiquette, facts, and the correct steps of folding the flag. During the afternoon they will be creating flags using popsicle sticks. Speaking of flags, the residents will be making 4th of July wreaths to hang on their doors June 21st. Wreath making has become a popular activity for our residents as they have made wreaths for each department to put on their office door!

Lastly, I am happy to announce that musicians and volunteers are welcome back in our building! If you would like to volunteer for activities or know someone that plays music, please contact the facility, and ask for Brooke at 319-462-4356.
