Our Valentine

What started off as a small idea turned into one HUGE Valentine’s Day! A couple weeks before Valentine’s Day the Activity Director put a post on Facebook for people to send us cards. The staff honestly thought that the residents were just going to get a couple cards from close friends and family. But then the post when viral and it took off! The staff was interviewed on KCRG about the Valentine’s post which then helped flood in all the cards.

A week before Valentine’s Day is when the cards started coming in. It started off with about 10 cards the first day and then after that each day the mail lady had to come, and hand deliver all the cards that were coming in! We ended up getting cards from 37 different states as well as from Germany and Canada. The residents were so excited to receive the cards everyday and seeing where they came from.

The residents and staff are truly thankful for everyone that took the time out of their day to send us all the cards! We also want to thank the community as well, on Valentine’s Day we received flowers from the Maquoketa Valley Electric Cooperative employees. I believe we had well over 500+ cards that got sent to the Care Center. Again, we are so thankful for a great community and all the new friends we made!
